Meet your instructor Khara. Craft Expert.
Punch needle, crochet, cross-stitch, embroidery, and sewing—there are few crafts Khara hasn’t fallen for. A natural-born teacher, she’s been helping creative types up their game with inspiration and know-how for more than 15 years. Her photography and design classes have delighted learners around the world on platforms including CreativeLive, AdobeMax 2020, and Brit+Co. Between coffee refills and trying to keep up with her six-year-old, Khara can be found attempting a New York Times crossword, catching up with her favorite late-night hosts, or trying to find her phone.
I created this course as a welcome party for crochet newbies. The project is simple enough for a beginner, but fancy enough to feel like you really accomplished something when finished. Before you know it, you'll be looking for your next project and proudly saying, "Look what I made!"
Khara will show you everything you need to know in order to complete this project, and she'll equip you with the skills to tackle even more crochet patterns once you're done.

Frequently Asked Questions
Crochet is a type of textile art that uses a hook tool to make loops of yarn, thread, or cord to produce fabric.
Crochet is not the same as knitting. Although both crafts produce fabric, knitting uses two large needles (knitting needles) and has different stitches.
In addition to a crochet hook and yarn, there are other items that will bring your bag to life:
- Scissors
- Button
- Needle and thread (for the button)
- Fringe maker: a small book, DVD case, etc. (approximately 5 inches wide) to wrap yarn around when making fringe
- Tapestry needle
- Row counter
- Stitch markers
- Swivel hooks or key rings to attach the strap to the purse

Yes! To create your fringy bag, you'll follow the Feelin' Fringy pattern, which comes with the course. It outlines all of the stitches and when you'll use them.
Don't know how to read a pattern? No problem. Khara goes over the pattern line-by-line in her class so you'll never feel lost.
Beginning to crochet is easier than you think! There are only two required supplies—yarn and a crochet hook—as well as a pattern to follow.
This class comes with a pattern that you can download and follow. Coupled with Khara's expert instruction, you'll be crocheting in no time.
Yarns vary by fiber content. Some are made with natural materials (like cotton) while others are synthetic fibers (like acrylic).
For the fringy bag, it's recommended you use two types of yarn. The main yarn, used in the body of the purse, should be cotton yarn—at least 200 yards of it. The fringe yarn, used as an accent, should be acrylic.
