I created this course for anyone who loves flowers but feels unsure about painting them realistically in watercolor.

Watercolor can seem unpredictable, especially when you're aiming for precision, but it doesn’t have to be. I’ll walk you through how to choose the right flower, observe its structure with a botanical eye, and bring it to life with rich color and delicate detail. No need to chase perfection, just a modern, vibrant approach to realism.
Whether you're just starting or looking to refine your skills, my goal is to help you build confidence and enjoy the calm, focused process of painting flowers in a new light.

Frequently Asked Questions

This course is designed for a deeper exploration of realistic watercolor with a focus on botanical art. It is an introductory course to botanical watercolor, and some prior experience with watercolor would be ideal. Otherwise, it is recommended to take the Introduction to Watercolor Painting course first and then return to this one.

While Victoria includes a handful of reference photos in her class workbook, you can certainly create your own composition using flowers of your choosing, or even a different reference photo.

During the class, Victoria will go over all the supplies you need and you will be able to download a list. Here are some of the essentials, however:

Paper:

Victoria recommends Fabriano Artistico Hot press Extra White or Natural White, A3 size (12" x 16").

Watercolors:

Brushes:

  • Round brushes, sizes 0 and 2 (natural or synthetic hair). These need to be soft, but able to retain their shape.
  • A synthetic number 0 or 1, flat to correct mistakes, and an old brush to mix your colors. You don't want to do this with your watercolor brushes.

And, of course, some fresh flowers to observe, dissect, and paint!
